Company Profile:
The Executive Branch agency of the United States government, responsible for the nation's civilian space program and aeronautics and aerospace research.
The the gas and dust matter that exists between the star systems within a galaxy. It fills interstellar space and blends smoothly into the surrounding intergalactic space.
Industry:Aerospace
The Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) was a joint project of the US, UK and the Netherlands. The IRAS mission performed an unbiased, sensitive all sky survey at 12, 25, 60 and 100 µm. IRAS increased the number of cataloged astronomical sources by about 70%, detecting about 350,000 infrared sources. IRAS discoveries included a disk of dust grains around the star Vega, six new comets, and very strong infrared emission from interacting galaxies as well as wisps of warm dust called infrared cirrus which could be found in almost every direction of space. IRAS also revealed for the first time the core of our galaxy, the Milky Way.
Industry:Aerospace
Meaning "below red" radiation. Electromagnetic radiation in the neighborhood of 100 micrometers wavelength.
Industry:Aerospace
ion
A charged particle consisting of an atom stripped of one or more of its electrons.
Industry:Aerospace
Alignment of Earth, sun, and an inferior planet on the same side of the sun.
Industry:Aerospace
Planet which orbits closer to the Sun than the Earth's orbit.
Industry:Aerospace
The angular distance of the orbital plane from the plane of the planet's equator, stated in degrees.
Industry:Aerospace
Conceptual basis for celestial positions, aligned with respect to extremely distant objects and utilizing the theory of general relativity. Link.
Industry:Aerospace
The realization of the ICRS provided by the adopted positions of extragalactic objects.
Industry:Aerospace
The angular distance of a celestial object measured westward along the celestial equator from the zenith crossing. In effect, HA represents the RA for a particular location and time of day.
