Monochronic culture

A concept developed by the American anthropologist Edward Hall. It refers to a culture in which time is divided up sequentially into segments and where the social norm is to do one thing at a time. Such cultures tend to be found in the Anglo-Saxon countries of North America and Northern Europe, where doing business revolves around strict timetabling and punctuality. Contrast with polychronic culture.
