Polychronic culture
A concept developed by the American anthropologist Edward Hall. It refers to a culture in which time is organised 'horizontally' along parallel tracks, rather than sequentially, so that people may do several things at the one time. In this kind of culture social and interpersonal relationships are usually more important than timetabling and punctuality. Such cultures are commonly found in Southern Europe, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Contrast with monochronic culture.
