ABS

Anti-lock brake system. German technology to help a driver retain control of the car while breaking in slippery conditions. In-car computers, sensors and solenoid valves measure wheel speed when breaking. When the wheel starts to skid, reducing braking efficiency and control, the brake pressure is released, then re-applied. The process occurs many times a second. More recent versions control rear-front brake bias.
