A disaster which occurred in the Chernobyl power plant in 1986, where one out of four nuclear reactors in the plant exploded, resulting in at least 5% of the reactor core being released into the atmosphere, detectable in nearly every nation in the Northern Hemisphere. As a result, around 30 workers died of injuries or acute radiation poisoning, and 350,000 people resettled away from the area.
