A radio net in which any station may communicate with any other station in the net without first obtaining the permission of the net-control station. Note: Permission to operate as a free net is granted by the net-control station until such time as a directed net is established by the net-control station. See freenet.
Industry:Telecommunications
A radio net in which no station other than the net control station may communicate with any other station without first obtaining permission from the net control station. Note: A directed net is established by the net control station. The net control station may restore the net to a free net.
Industry:Telecommunications
A radio operating in a network that (a) provides a half-duplex circuit and (b) uses either a single radio frequency or a discrete set of radio frequencies when in a frequency hopping mode. Note: CNRs are primarily used for push-to-talk-operated radio nets for command and control of combat, combat support, and combat service support operations among ground, sea, and air forces.
