Both in a rear-end impact and during the rebound phase of a frontal crash, the design and position of the head restraints has a substantial influence on occupant head and neck loads. Only a properly adjusted head restraint can direct the energy generated head impact into the seat structure and thus help to avoid or reduce injuries to the head and neck.

Tinted, heat-insulated windows reduce the intensity of sunlight and heat build-up in the vehicle interior. That means more comfort and driving safety, particularly in the summer.

Integration between driver and the vehicle is the hallmark of Audi technology. HomeLink takes that integration one step further, using a simple, three-button system to control your garage door, gates, and even lights in your home. The HomeLink system is integrated into the overhead controls of your vehicle and eliminates the need for clumsy garage door openers. Based on an integrated radio frequency (RF) transceiver, HomeLink is quickly and easily programmed and works with over 98% of operating garage door openers. Three buttons means you can also program other garage doors, gates, and even lights in your home using optional accessories. Meshing the driving experience with the comforts of home is what the HomeLink and Audi are all about.

Along with torque, horsepower is one of the key measures of engine performance. In general, greater horsepower offers smoother acceleration, less frequent shifts, and greater top speed. One horsepower is defined as the ability to lift 33,000 pounds one foot in one minute.

Engine knock is characteristic of an uncontrolled combustion process and can cause engine damage. That is prevented by a knock sensor, a noise sensor near the engine. It senses knock and transmits information to the electronic engine management control unit. This influences process control in the engine, for example timing and fuel injection until knock is eliminated. Knock is frequently caused by fuel that does not comply with the required minimum quality.

The child restraint (CR) anchorage system in a vehicle is commonly referred to as the LATCH system, and is designed for simpler CR installation in the vehicle. It has two components: tether anchors and lower anchorage and guidance fixtures. The tether anchor is a permanent fixture in the vehicle for the sole purpose of securing the CR. Lower anchors are found between the rear seat cushion and the rear seat back.

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have a whole series of technical advantages over conventional bulbs, the most important being their activation speed and their long service life. If a trailing driver can notice the brake lights of the leading car sooner, that driver’s reaction time can be quickened, potentially resulting in a shorter stopping distance and/or avoiding an accident. LEDs can last an entire vehicle lifetime, consume up to 50 percent less energy and take up less space. Selected Audi models use LEDs for rear light functions (tail lights, brake lights, turn signal indicators), in the side turn indicators, and in daytime driving lights.

The light sensor measures the surrounding light conditions with the aid of a photocell. If the headlight control switch is set to “Auto”, the low-beam headlights are automatically activated at dusk. The light sensor is usually combined with the rain sensor, located on the windshield and just behind the rearview mirror.

The McPherson strut forms a connection between the wheel hub and the vehicle body. It has the following functions: to provide wheel suspension, to limit wheel bump and rebound, to attenuate vibration, form a flexible link at the attachment point on the body and to transmit steering movements. Lightweight, high-strength materials are used to reduce unsprung mass to improve handling and ride.
Industry:Automotive
In this suspension layout, the wheel is located by a lateral control arm (usually a triangulated wishbone) below wheel center by a suspension strut and an additional tie rod. The advantages of this layout are low unsprung mass, a broad support base, low forces and space-saving design. Named after its inventor, the McPherson suspension has been continually developed over the decades since it first appeared and is now the standard layout for a large number of cars up to the midsize category.
