An indicating instrument that measures electrical power.
Industry:Aviation
An indicating system used with a gas turbine engine to measure the temperature of the exhaust gases as they enter the tail pipe, after passing through the turbine. The turbine inlet, a point just before the exhaust gases enter the turbine, is the most critical location inside a gas turbine engine with regard to temperature. But it is very difficult to measure the temperature at this location. The temperature of the gases after they have passed through the turbine is easy to measure, and this temperature relates to that of the gases at the turbine inlet. The EGT system consists of a number of thermocouples connected in parallel and arranged around the tail pipe so they measure the average temperature of the exhaust gases.
Industry:Aviation
An indication on an instrument which provides the pilot a visual means of determining that the aircraft is located on the center line of a given navigational track, or an indication on a radarscope that an aircraft is on a given track.
Industry:Aviation
An indicator light used when timing magnetos to indicate when the breaker points open. Some timing lights also incorporate an oscillator or buzzer that changes its pitch when the points open.
Industry:Aviation
An indicator paper, used to determine whether a solution is acidic or basic (alkaline). Litmus paper is made by soaking a piece of absorbent paper in a solution of litmus powder dissolved in water. When blue litmus paper is wet with an acid solution, it turns red, and when red litmus paper is wet with an alkaline solution, it turns blue.
Industry:Aviation
An indicator that shows the value of the parameter being measured by the amount a pointer moves across a numerical scale.
Industry:Aviation
An indicator used in aerial navigation with the VOR, very-high-frequency omnirange navigation system. The To-From indicator shows the pilot whether the aircraft is flying toward or away from the station if it is flying at the heading shown on the omni bearing selector (OBS). When an aircraft passes over a VOR antenna, the To-From indicator changes from To to From.
Industry:Aviation
An indicator used with VOR, LORAN, or GPS navigation systems to indicate the direction and relative amount of deviation from the desired course. CDIs are often called Left-Right indicators.
Industry:Aviation
An indicator visible to the wearer of an oxygen mask that shows when oxygen is flowing into the mask.
Industry:Aviation
An indicator, consisting of two lamps, used to indicate the direction of phase rotation of a three-phase alternating current generator. One lamp is bright and the other dim if the phase rotation is A-B-C. If the phase rotation is A-C-B, the condition of the lamps reverses. The first lamp will be dim and the second will be bright.
